Howdy!

This is the update you've been waiting for! After many much nuts and hiding ourselves in our den for months on end, the new version of Squirrelcart is here! Many much yays!

A new version of Squirrelcart?! Really?!?

Yes. We know you've been waiting, but this update constitutes literally hundreds of development hours updating the code to be compatible with the newer versions of PHP.

What does that mean, this PHP thing?

PHP is the language that millions of pages on the Internet are programmed in, including Squirrelcart. The previous 6.x (and older) versions of Squirrelcart were written to be compatible with versions of PHP up to 5.6. Sure, it could run on PHP 7.0, but it wasn't designed to. A big number of changes happened since PHP hit 7.0, which required pretty massive changes to Squirrelcart to make it compatible with the newest versions of PHP available today.

Ok give it to me straight. Whats in this new version??

The answer is both "not a whole lot" as well as "soooooo much" at the same time. Function wise, not much has changed. Don't get us wrong, we were able to make optimizations in the code as we were working, but as far as features not a whole lot has changed since v6.1.3. Some of you have been getting emails from USPS warning about unsecure endpoints, and this version has the update for that!

Is there anything I need to know about this new version?

  • Release Candidate

This version is a Release Candidate. What that means is that this new version of Squirrelcart was put through it's paces by our staff and out BETA testers, but as software with literally hundreds of options, testing every possible combination of settings is hard to accomplish. As such there IS a possibility a few things slipping through the cracks. So, keep that it mind and let us know if you find something amiss.
  • PHP Compatibility

This version of Squirrelcart is compatible with PHP versions 7.1 and higher. Please note, this means that this version of Squirrelcart can not run in the same location as a running version of 6.1 or older. You will need to upgrade to a new version of PHP before the installation of Squirrelcart 7.0.
